Healthy Dancers, Healthy Dancing 3!
Our most popular event is back! All dancers, from students to professionals, ages 10 and up are invited to this fantastic day-long workshop! This is an awesome day that combines self-care with learning - classes include:

  • Feldenkrais Method with Samantha Basford. No pain, more gain! That’s how the saying should go anyway. The Feldenkrais Method Ⓡ of neuro-muscular re-education can teach you how to explore and help yourself in the process of learning to know improvement at your deepest levels of functioning and organization. You will learn the connections between how to clarify and enhance your dance technique, gain greater flexibility, strength and ease in movements, find greater self-expression, and noticing and making adjustments to prevent injuries (or quicken recovery after.) Samantha will give an introductory talk and guide a short experiential lesson in Awareness Through Movement Ⓡ.No special clothing required other than enough layers for warmth. We will lie on the floor and experiment with small movement in noticing details of subtle sensation, shifts in attention and playing with gestures and images of the whole self in action in functional relationships. This method has been utilized by some of the greatest artists and athletes in the world. Come discover for yourself this simple, sophisticated, yet profound and fun method for self-improvement.

  • Playing with Dance with Mary-Elizabeth Fenn. Playing with Dance is a class about exploring our own dance vocabulary. We will use improvisational exercises to remind us that dancing is our nature. This class asks you to approach yourself as an investigator and use dance to paint your own voice. Attire: bare feet, comfortable active wear.

  • Strong & Steady with Veronica Kotulak. Veronica, a certified personal trainer, will present a Strong & Steady class containing exercises to level up your dance technique and keep you on your toes for years. She is very happy to be joining us to teach about joint protection, pacing techniques, cross-training to progress your technique, and self-care for longevity in dance.

  • MELT Method for Dancers with Makayla McIntosh. The MELT Method®, by Sue Hitzmann, is a simple self treatment technique that provides a revolutionary approach to pain-free living. Through a carefully coordinated series of movements and the use of specially designed balls and a soft roller, the MELT Method rehydrates the connective tissue (also known as fascia), rebalances the nervous system, and restores space to compressed joints.
